Political Bites

Last week the UC Regents stuck it to students with another fee increase.  This week, congress wants to reduce the amount of money for student loans.  Nice, real nice.  

Let me get this straight, UCSB is raising $500 million in cash and it needs to stick it to the students for more money?  If UCSB merely took the interest it could earn on the $500 million and rebated only the interest to the students, each student would get over $2,200 per year.

UCSB Judgmental Bites

According to the Cal Poly pamphlets distributed to dorm residents, "“Greek men are more likely to perpetrate rape, gang rape, and acquaintance rape, than are non-greek (sic) men,” and that, “Date rape drugs are highly prevalent” during Greek recruitment (Mustang Daily, Oct. 3, 2005),"  Shocked, I am shocked.  Who knew?  Apparently, in response to this cutting edge research, UCSB issued a new charter to Sigma Alpha Epsilon (suspended six years ago).   

UCSB's PIKE chapter (Pi Kappa Alpha) lives up to it image of "very aggressive" during a kickball event.  One of PIKE's fine young gentlemen allegedly committed a felony assault.  When do you suppose that the good Chancellor will pull his head out of wherever he keeps it and get rid of the Frats and Sororities?    

Many thanks to each of the individuals who participated in the group cleanup of IV (post Halloween).  They picked up 7,000 pounds of trash.  Question: If this is the "environmental generation," how did the 7,000 pounds of trash get on the streets and beaches of IV in the first place?   Oh that's right - I forgot the UCSB exception: When you are drunk, or drugged out of your skull, it's not your fault.
